Home of the Great Kelly Slater. The winter season rolled into effect where the air becomes cool and the ocean a little cooler. Perhaps that water temp was about 65 to seventy in that month of December 2007. Slater felt right at home having experienced many years of his life in a community that admires Kelly Slater special touch to every wave. The ocean rolled in some four and five footers. This was a benefit for cancer. Kelly signed autographs every chance he got. The kids were eating it up. Its surfers like Slater on and off the board, that keep the sport alive. Water dripped off his nose as he signed for a the kids that swarmed like bees.

Even if you weren't a serious surfing fan you could really appreciate the reaction of the crowd to every turn of Kelly Slater. I looked out into the water to the black wet suit of Slater. He picked up a four foot wave. That poor little wave got chewed to pieces at the aggressive style of this highly skilled surfer. The wave took a real wipping with all the snaps. Kelly totally destroyed this Florida wave. He surfed every inch of it, and thus covered every angle. The commentator expressed that Kelly likes to put as much effort as possible into every set. This is what makes Kelly Slater the best surfer...ever. Its a truly rewarding experience to watch Slater surf.

Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy for www.kelly-slater.info

KELLY SLATER MAKES IT THREE IN A ROW!! He has won his third event on the 2008 ASP World Tour by eliminating C.J. Hobgood in the final of the Globe Pro Fiji. The final was held in six foot (two metres) waves at the spot called Cloudbreak. Slater now comfortably sits on top of ASP rankings and is the only ASP tour surfer to won the event this year!! Event in Tahiti was won by a wildcard.

Kellys words after the win: "I don't think I've ever won three out of the first four events on tour, I've won the first two a couple times but I think this is the first time I've ever done this. Being the only guy on tour to win an event is pretty odd. I don't think there has ever been that situation on tour. I know Curren and Potts both won the first three, but I don't think a wildcard filled in that fourth one."

Slater has now extended his ASP ratings lead with Joel Parkinson (AUS) and Bede Durbidge (AUS) maintaining their World No. 2 and 3 spots behind him.

"This feels good, three wins this year, as Damien said to me, I'm sitting on dubs," Slater said.

"That's as many points as you can get out of three contests, that fourth one, Tahiti, is obviously just a throw away and, lucky for me in that situation, Joel was only the only guy to actually do anything there. C.J. got a result there too, up to that point he hadn't really done anything, so he's sitting on a second and a third, he's looking pretty good now."

The world's best surfers will reconvene in Jeffreys Bay July 10-20, 2008. GO KELLY!!

Kelly Slater Wins Bells Beach 2008

BELLS BEACH, Australia (Thursday, March 27, 2008) - Kelly Slater has further asserted that he is the best surfer on earth after winning the Rip Curl Pro presented by Snickers. Launching a huge air to earn a last minute score and beat Bede Durbidge (AUS)in the final, the 36-year old has claimed his 36th event win and rung the bell for the third time.

Kelly Slater:"It feels awesome; it feels really good, the Bell is arguably the best trophy you can win in surfing. I do have a couple, but to get there and have the chance and get a third one feels really good. I've just joined my good friend Sunny (Garcia) with three, and I think MR (Mark Richards) and MP (Michael Peterson) have four or five Those guys are crazy."

Slater trailed Durbidge for the first 27 minutes of the 30-minute affair. Surfing his fourth heat of the day, the 8X ASP World Champion was tired and had all but given up.

He later said:"I thought Bede had me, I wasn't trying to worry too much or stress. I was happy just to be in the Final but before the heat I heard Rabbit say something about going up to Rincon so I thought I would sneak up there to see what I could find."

What he found was a ramp from which to launch a daring double-grab aerial. He was awarded an 8.83 (out of 10.00) for the massive maneuver and took the lead.

Slater explained: "I was really surprised Bede (Durbidge) let me paddle up to Ricon by myself. I thought that when I looked back, he would be 10 yards behind me, but when I looked back, he was still in the Bowl. Then that wave came that let me do that big air."

Claiming victories in the first two events on the 2008 ASP World Tour, Slater has now replicated the 2006 season-start that eventuated in his 8th ASP World Title. He confirmed that's he's made plans to attend the next event in Tahiti and is thinking about No. 9.

"It'd be silly to say it's not on the radar somewhere, but my whole approach and attitude at this point is just to have fun. There is a lot of hype with Dane (Reynolds) and Jordy (Smith), and don't think it's just hype, those guys are the real deal. I know it's got me excited to see what I can do on a wave and to push my equipment. The title thing is there to get, but at this point it's more about pushing my performance to see how much I can do on a wave."

The next event on ASP World Tour will take place in Teahupoo, Tahiti from May 8-18, 2008.

Slater starts 2008 season with a win

There have been lots of rumors last year, lots of question will Kelly retire after last years season. The 2007 WCT tour ended with Mick Fanning winning, Kelly Slater finished in third place. Kelly was still in contention two events before the end, but he just could not get on track. But with his surfing still stellar as ever he is a major world title contender for the 2008 season if he stays on tour. And he proved that in the best way possible - by winning the first event of the yeat - QS Pro in Australia. Congrats Kelly!
Although Kelly still refuses to say whether he will show up for all the events this year we are sure the early win will give him motivation to do so.
